ASEP Information

Volunteers

We need parent volunteers each day to help with the following:

                                1. Escorting kindergarten and first grade students to their ASEP class.

                                2. Taking attendance for each class and accounting for absentees.

                3. Handling problems that may occur during class.

                4. Dismissing students at 3:20 p.m.

              5. Assisting in classes when requested by the instructor.

In return for your assistance ONE day we will guarantee ONE of your children a place in ONE class of their choice.  Volunteers will be accepted on a first-come, first serve basis in the order registrations are received.  Please indicate your willingness to volunteer on the registration form.  You may send in registration to school with your child or drop it off in the office in the ASEP bin.

Registration

  • Registration forms are due on or before February 14th by the end of the school day. No late registrations accepted.

  • Please complete one registration form for each child. Forms are in the back of this brochure and on the Hillside website.

  • Registrations may be sent to school with your child or dropped off in the office in the ASEP bin.

  • Over enrollment: If a class is over-enrolled, students will be chosen by lottery from all registrations received by the registration deadline. If a class is over-enrolled in the current session of ASEP and the same class or a similar class was also over-enrolled in the prior session of ASEP, then preference in the lottery will be given to students who registered for, but did not get into the similar class in the prior session. If a student is closed out of an over-enrolled class or if a class is canceled due to insufficient enrollment, parents will be notified by telephone or email with the option of choosing another class.

Please be advised that any registration forms submitted after February 14th will only be considered if there are openings. Late registrations will not be placed in the lottery if a class is over-enrolled.

  • Parents will receive an email notification confirming enrollment shortly before classes begin.

    Payment

  • Checks should be made out to Hillside PTO.  Cash accepted.  Payment required at time of registration.

  • Registrations may be sent to school with your child or dropped off in the office in the ASEP bin. Please mark the envelope ASEP.

Scholarships are available. If your child(ren) would like to participate in ASEP and you are in need of financial assistance, please contact Dr. Fasciglione at 377-1856. Be assured that all calls are confidential.

Refunds/Cancellations

  • There are no refunds once registration is closed (Registrations deadline: February 14th) unless a class is cancelled or a child is closed out of a class. There are no exceptions to this rule.

  • If a class is filled, you will be notified by e-mail or phone and offered the choice of a different class. If no remaining classes suit your child’s interest, your check will be returned to you via school mail.

  • The Hillside PTO reserves the right to cancel any class due to insufficient enrollment.  A full refund will be given for any cancelled program. The Hillside PTO collects only a small administrative fee to cover expenses like bounced checks (usually less than $1 per student). The entire registration fee less the small administrative fee gets paid directly to the instructor. The Hillside PTO, therefore, does not have flexibility with the refund/cancellation policy and cannot allow students to change classes after the registration deadline or issue credits for future classes.

Class Times and Dates

This ASEP session is 5 one-hour classes, beginning at 2:20pm and ending at 3:20pm. The weeks may not be consecutive due to the district calendar (early releases, conferences, etc.).  Please save and note the dates for each class in the detailed descriptions that follow.

Pick-Up

It is the responsibility of the parents/guardians of each participant to arrange transportation.  Please arrive on time at 3:20 p.m. to pick up your child. Pick-up will take place from the ASEP classrooms. Children will not be allowed to meet a car. Registered students will be released only with the adult(s) designated on the registration form. Children must be “signed out” by the program volunteer assigned to the door.  Children who will be walking home must also “sign out” with the program volunteer.  Prior permission (in writing) must be given by the parent/guardian for a walker to be released without an adult. If there is a change from the registration form as to who will pick up your child after class, please send a note in to school to be placed in the ASEP folder or call the office by 2:00 p.m.

Emergencies

Children will be sent home by bus at normal dismissal time if classes are cancelled due to inclement weather or any other school emergency. In the case of cancelled classes due to inclement weather, we will make our best effort to reschedule the cancelled session. In case of an emergency during class, you will be contacted at the emergency telephone numbers that you provided on the registration form. Please make sure that these numbers are accurate.

Student Behavior

Please remind your child that the expectations for behavior in ASEP classes are the same as for the regular school day.  In order to participate in ASEP classes, children must be willing to accept the instructor’s direction.  For the benefit of all, we will not allow persistently disruptive children to continue in classes.  We appreciate your support.

Class Absence

If your child will not be attending class for any reason, please promptly notify the school office and ask that a note be placed in the appropriate ASEP folder for that day.  It will help the ASEP volunteer with record keeping and save unnecessary phone calls.

WEDNESDAY CLASSES (continued)

Drawing with Confidence - Hints of Spring Scenes

Learning how to draw and cut a snowflake is one thing, but learning how to draw a hints of spring scene with cabins or animals or streetlights or slushy splashes on a boot is another.  Drawing with Confidence starts with cutting off erasers and moving along, turning stray marks into objects which appear in your scene.  This class will allow for one project which is worked on from class 1 to class 5, to complete a Hints of Spring Scene!  Your child's scene could include winter/spring sports, snowball games, quiet serenity with peekaboo animals, a maze of snowy tracks, anything your quiet or energetic child likes to draw!  No mistakes can be made, in other words....mistakes do not happen in art, blobs are turned into objects and children learn that the more blobs you make, the more that gets added to your scene.

Instructor, Lisa Lambert, has experience in scenes on fabric for animal cages at the Children's Museum of Science and Technology, so it's not just leaves and flower blossoms she's asking for...this will be a real scenery class!

Pencils, Pastels on 11 x 14 high quality art paper, and pastel fixative spray to permanently hold pastel to paper will be provided for the class. Your child will bring home a completed, pastel prepared and stabilized, colorful scene.

·         Registration forms are due on or before September 24th by the end of the school day.

·         Please complete one registration form for each child. Forms are in the back of this brochure and on the Hillside website.

·         Registrations may be sent to school with your child or dropped off in the office in the ASEP bin.

·         Over enrollment: If a class is over-enrolled, students will be chosen by lottery from all registrations received by the registration deadline. If a class is over-enrolled in the Fall session of ASEP and the same class or a similar class was also over-enrolled in the Spring session of ASEP, then preference in the lottery will be given to students who registered for, but did not get into the similar class in the Fall. If a student is closed out of an over-enrolled class or if a class is canceled due to insufficient enrollment, parents will be notified by telephone or email with the option of choosing another class.

Please be advised that any registration forms submitted after September 24th will only be considered if there are openings. Late registrations will not be placed in the lottery if a class is over-enrolled.

·         Parents will receive email notification (written, if email address is not available) confirming enrollment shortly before classes begin.

Payment

·         Checks should be made out to Hillside PTO.  Cash accepted.

·         Registrations may be sent to school with your child or dropped off in the office in the ASEP bin. Please mark the envelope ASEP.

Scholarships are available. If your child(ren) would like to participate in ASEP and you are in need of financial assistance, please contact Dr. Fasciglione at 377-1856. Be assured that all calls are confidential.

Refunds/Cancellations

·         There are no refunds once registration is closed (Registrations deadline: September 24th) unless a class is cancelled or a child is closed out of a class. There are no exceptions to this rule.

·      If a class is filled, you will be notified by e-mail or phone and offered the choice of a different class. If no remaining classes suit your child’s interest, your check will be returned to you via school mail.

·     The Hillside PTO reserves the right to cancel any class due to insufficient enrollment.

The weeks may not consecutive due to the district calendar (early releases, conferences, etc.).

This class will allow for one project, which is worked on from class 1 to 5, to complete a Winter Scene with allowances for hints of Spring! Your child’s winter scene could include winter sports, snowball games, quiet serenity with peekaboo animals, a maze of snowy tracks, anything your child likes to draw.

·         Registration forms are due on or before October 2nd by the end of the school day.

·         Please complete one registration form for each child.  Forms are in the back of this brochure and on the Hillside website.

·         Registrations may be sent to school with your child or dropped off to the office in the ASEP bin.

·         Over enrollment: If a class is over-enrolled, students will be chosen by lottery from all registrations received by the registration deadline.  If a student is closed out of an over-enrolled class or if a class is canceled due to insufficient enrollment, parents will be notified by telephone or email with the option of choosing another class.

Please be advised that any registration forms submitted after October 2nd will only be considered if there are openings.  Late registrations will not be placed in the lottery if a class is over-enrolled.

·         Parents will receive email notification (written, if email address is not available) confirming enrollment shortly before classes begin.

Payment

·         Checks should be made out to Hillside PTO.  Cash accepted.

·         Registrations may be sent to school with your child or dropped off to the office in the ASEP bin.  Please mark the envelope ASEP.

Scholarships are available. If your child(ren) would like to participate in ASEP and you are in need of financial assistance, please contact Dr. Fasciglione at 377-1856.  Be assured that all calls are confidential.

Refunds/Cancellations

·         There are no refunds once registration is closed (Registrations deadline:October 2 ) unless a class is cancelled or a child is closed out of a class.

·      If a class is filled, you will be notified by e-mail or phone and offered the choice of a different class.    If no remaining classes suit your child’s interest, your check will be returned to you via school mail.

·     The Hillside PTO reserves the right to cancel any class due to insufficient enrollment.  A full refund will be given for any cancelled program.

Class Times and Dates

This ASEP session is 5 one-hour classes, beginning at 2:20pm and ending at 3:20pm.  The weeks are not consecutive due to the district calendar (early releases, conferences, etc.).  Please save and note the dates for each class in the detailed descriptions that follow.  Please note that Podcasting is only a 4 week long class.

Pick-Up???????

It is the responsibility of the parents/guardians of each participant to arrange transportation.  Please arrive on time - 3:20 p.m. to pick up your child.
